365 Creature Feature Roundup

I traveled to Minneapolis last week for a wedding; I flaked a bit on the daily drawing while traveling but I did do flower designing and creative problem solving for the big event. 

Here is a roundup of some recent crazy sea creatures from my daily drawing Instagram project #365CreatureFeature. I'm on a goofy doodle vibe and having a lot of fun with these. I plan to develop some of these into surface pattern design collections.

 And speaking of creatures this Mourning dove stopped by the studio window today. She was teaching her youngsters to fly. One of them was not having it and stayed firmly planted on the ledge outside my studio for half of the day. Good luck little dove!

Lilla Rogers Studio Global Talent Search

Phew! I've finished my entry for Lilla Rogers Studio Global Talent Search.  For the brief we were directed to ‘create a playground themed journal cover as if Paperchase were your client’.

I drew a young mouse and chipmunk swinging and jumping rope. Now that the heat wave has broken I am ready to get outside and play as well! But after Lilla's class and the talent search brief. I'm exhausted!

Snail Week

Working on snails this week. Here are some snail-doodles I did this morning. Snails jumping about in non-typical snail fashion.

Studio School

Lilla Rodgers Studio School starts today and I am pretty excited to begin! Here is the little illustration I made with the class logo.

Sketchbook

Sometimes everything  just makes sense. I'll sit down, pick up a paint brush and a drawing just happens.

And then the drawing asks for a story. I love just following my nose drawing image after image and making up the plot as I go along. I'm going to start posting some of my one shot illustrated stories on this blog or my website as soon as I scan everybody in and find the best format for presenting these. Stay tuned.

Also I drew these illustrations on Yupo paper. This was my first time using Yupo. I like the way the watercolor glides over the smooth page.

Sketchbook: bear-monster and bunny

A bear like monster who just wants to be friends. But he is so large and clawed and has a habit of bursting through the foliage that he scares away bunny rabbits and other would-be friends.
